Ralph De La Rosa

Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.” -Rilke

Ralph De La Rosa, LCSW is the author of The Monkey Is the Messenger: Meditation & What Your Busy Mind Is Trying to Tell You. His work has been featured in CNN, GQ, SELF, Women’s Health, and many other publications and podcasts. He's was named amongst Sonima's "Next Generation of Meditation Teachers.

From Confusion to Clarity: How to Heal Every Part of You

The disruptive negative emotions and repetitive patterns in our lives are not our enemies. They are messengers, sounding the alarm from deep within us that something longs to be healed at our core. Every extreme emotion we experience is directly linked to a core hurt that lives insides of us. Our habit may be to distract ourselves from or numb out these troublesome parts, but sooner or later we must reckon with them or else things will only get worse. Too many of us live in the dark about how to do just that in a way that effective, holistic, and non-judgmental.

Research findings of the last two decades have revealed how our unresolved frustrations and traumas — both large and small, “live” in our bodies and are the source of all repetitive patterns, compulsive self-medicating and distracting, involuntary emotional eruptions, intrusive thoughts, and repeat difficulties in intimate relationships. This means the very root of all that holds us back is right here with us, and we ourselves can go directly to the source to find insight, resolve, resilience, and self-compassion when we are empowered with the proper tools and skills to do so.

This series will give you the inner technology to do so. Utilizing the wisdom of Internal Family Systems, Tibetan Yoga, neuroscience, and modern mindfulness meditation, you will learn evidence-based methods for self-process that result in clarity, growth, self-realization, and the deepening of radical self love. The best part: you can engage in these practices on your own, without a therapist, and experience deep, abiding change.

Ralph is a therapist in private practice in NYC. (Please note: Ralph will not be conducting psychotherapy on this retreat.) He specializes in helping people resolve their childhood traumas, anxiety, depression, and intimacy issues. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Services.

Ralph began practicing meditation in 1996 and has taught meditation since 2008. He was a student of Amma's for 16 years and began studying Buddhism in 2005. He is a mentor to meditation teacher trainees at MNDFL; and a regular teacher at venues such as Spirit Rock, Omega Institute, and Kripalu.

Ralph himself is a depression, PTSD, and addiction survivor. His work is inspired by the tremendous transformation he has experienced through meditation, yoga, and therapy. You can listen to (or read) his story on the Embodied Philosophy podcast episode, "Inside One Teacher’s Journey From Darkness to Light”
